Under construction

I really hate the “under construction” metaphor that permeates the Internet. However, as I have put this web site together over the last month I have come to the stark realization that the effort is huge, and it will be a long while before all the pages are populated. The underlying framework is now solid, but the necessary data is just beginning to be populated.

Welcome to the Kingfisher Project

The Kingfisher Project has a two-fold purpose: to be the authoritative site for every piece of relevant information about kingfishers, and to document my effort to see all 93 species of kingfishers seen in the world.

As of today I have seen 9 species of kingfisher: Azure Kingfisher (10/12/1992), Laughing Kookaburra (10/7/1992), Blue-winged Kookaburra (10/7/1992), Forest Kingfisher (10/11/1992), Red-backed Kingfisher (10/14/1992), Sacred Kingfisher (10/9/1992), Ringed Kingfisher (6/13/1980), Belted Kingfisher (5/6/1972), and Green Kingfisher (6/13/1980). My biggest miss to this point has to be the Common Kingfisher, which I have never seen even with all the time I’ve spent in Europe over the last 30 years. Oh, well, something to anticipate and look forward to.

Even though this blog will be a documentary of my search for kingfishers, I look forward to interacting with experts around the world. I want this website to not only be my labor of love, but a cooperative effort from everyone who knows and loves kingfishers.
